ADD/ADHD
Increasingly parents and some primary care physicians are turning to alternative therapies to try to alleviate childhood conditions for which traditional medicine often has few resources except the prescription of medication. Attention Deficit (Hyperactive) Disorder and general behavioral problems can be, and often are, debilitating for child and family alike and dramatically affect quality of life for all.
ADD/ADHD is caused by an imbalance in brain chemicals called neurotransmitters. There are five specific neurotransmitters that you must keep in good health and balance: Dopamine, Opioids, GABA, Norepinephrine, and Serotonin. When you don't keep these neurotransmitters in balance a person can feel the following sensations:
- Anxiety
- Difficulty paying attention
- A strong sense of urgency
- Feelings of uneasiness
- Inability to have good sleep and experience feelings of well being
There is no known drug that can actually put these neurotransmitters back into natural balance. ADD/ADHD drugs artificially manipulate these neurotransmitters. This method can effectively boost concentration, but often leaves a person feeling “not myself”, not able to express any personality. These drugs don't fix the source of the problem. They can create many more negative side effects. Most ADD/ADHD drugs can cause the following side effects:
- Inability to sleep
- Lack of appetite (which often leads to other medical issues)
- Listlessness
- Heart problems
How It Works
Abundant Health Recovery and Wellness Center is one of the very few practices in the United States which specializes in the use of Auriculotherapy for the treatment of children. This is a system of diagnosis and treatment using the cranial nerves in the ear. Years of scientific research in France and America have produced such impressive results that the World Health Organization now recognizes Auriculotherapy as a means of diagnosis and treatment for conditions such as learning disorders, behavioral problems and attention deficit disorders. Generally, nerve reflex points in the ear are only evident when there is a condition to be diagnosed, making Auriculotherapy a particularly accurate and highly effective diagnostic tool.
Complementary Healing Methods
Cognitive Therapy and Positive Behavioral Reinforcement
The second of the three prongs of traditional management of ADHD is cognitive and behavioral "training". More than one-third of kids treated with behavioral techniques alone will improve their ADHD symptoms to some extent. The cornerstone of this type of approach is structured daily routines. Even though ADHD kids appear to be less structured in their behavior and habits, they respond best to a daily schedule and time limits. More so than others, these kids need to be taught to pay close attention when they are being spoken to, and quizzed to see that they have comprehended instructions. We partner with professionals who specialize in this field and are exceptionally successful with their approach.
Proper Diet
There is not enough that can be said about nutrition’s role in both physical and mental health. We use amino
acid therapy to help restore normal neurotransmitter activation and production as well as whole food supplementation. |
