Obsessive Compulsive Disorders

OCD1Healthy people have rituals, such as checking to see if the stove is off several times before leaving the house. However, people with an obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) perform their rituals even though doing so interferes with daily life and they find the repetition distressing. Although most adults with OCD recognize that what they are doing is senseless, some adults and most children may not realize that their behavior is out of the ordinary.

Why an Alternative Treatment?

Science has discovered a common denominator linking OCD with other behavioral disorders. A deficiency exists in the part of the brain that brings about feelings of well-being and provides comfort and stress reduction.

OCD affects about 2.2 million American adults, and the problem can be accompanied by eating disorders, OCD2other anxiety disorders, or depression. It strikes men and women in roughly equal numbers and usually appears in childhood, adolescence, or early adulthood. One-third of adults with OCD develop symptoms as children, and research indicates that OCD might run in families.

The course of the disease is quite varied. Symptoms may come and go, ease over time, or get worse. If OCD becomes severe, it can keep a person from working or carrying out normal responsibilities at home. People with OCD may try to help themselves by avoiding situations that trigger their obsessions, or they may use alcohol or drugs to calm themselves.

How It Works

Auriculotherapy has a long standing history of helping people restore balance in their lives by helping people feel well, calm, and at ease. Your practitioner at Abundant Health Recovery and Wellness Center has a commitment to helping people, literally eliminate their obsessive compulsive disorders.BRAIN

During an auriculotherapy treatment we stimulate the brain to secrete neurotransmitters such as endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine to calm the brain, and calm the drives and compulsions. When a person is experiencing the “feel good” chemistry of the brain, the anxiety driven thoughts and rituals are no longer necessary. Where there is a properly functioning dopamine pathway in the brain, there exists a balanced thinking and feeling person. Where there is balance and ease, there is no opportunity for compulsive thoughts, acts or feelings.

Complementary Healing Methods

Nutrition

The second of the 3 prongs of recovery is proper diet. There is not enough that can be said about nutrition’s role in both physical and mental health.

Meditation and Yoga

The third of the 3 prongs of recovery is cognitive and behavioral "training" through Yoga and Deep Breathing Meditation.
