Substance Abuse

Alcoholism and drug addiction affects each and everyone one of us, either directly of indirectly. In fact, more than 22 million people, (9.2% of population over the age of 12) have an alcohol or drug problem.

Furthermore:

  • 50% of all traffic fatalities and 35% of all suicides are due to addiction.1
National Center for Substance Abuse and Treatment.
  • 75% of first time drug offenders will be rearrested.2
National Center for Substance Abuse and Treatment.

Why an Alternative Treatment?

Research has shown that long-term addiction results in significant changes in brain function that persist long after the individual stops using drugs. These drug-induced changes in brain function may have many behavioral consequences, including the compulsion to use drugs despite adverse consequences.

How It Works

Because all addictions have the same basic “fingerprint” in terms of brain chemistry, we use the BRAIN REWARD CASCADE model and the disease model of addiction in our treatment.

BRAIN REWARD CASCADE

The Reward Site (the nucleus accumbens) in the brain is the master of simple but powerful drives. When all of the neurotransmitters, working in harmony and in conjunction with one another, stimulate the production, transportation, and reception of dopamine at the reward site, a person is calm, at ease and satisfied. Researcher, Kenneth Blum called this condition the BRAIN REWARD CASCADE.

Our treatment consists of the traditional methods of one-on-one counseling, 12-step programs (N.A., A.A., etc), and group therapy in addition to Auriculotherapy, Amino Acid Therapy and Neurological Stress Release Treatment. These last three therapies when added to traditional treatment protocols has been proven through randomized clinical trials to increase success rates dramatically. It gives the addict a better chance to get clean and stay clean.

Complementary Healing Methods

Nutrition

The second of the 3 prongs of recovery is proper diet. There is not enough that can be said about nutrition’s role in both physical and mental health.

Meditation and Yoga

The third of the 3 prongs of recovery is cognitive and behavioral "training" through Yoga and Deep Breathing Meditation.
